ABOUT ABOUT

What happens when live storytelling and food collide?

A multi-sensory experience that encourages people to bridge cultural divides.

We will invite a cook to prepare a food dish that is connected to their fondest memory and tell a story about it. At the end of their story, the audience of 30 will taste the dish. Over the course of 12-months, we will host up to five (5) dinners and will design a Detroit story cookbook.

Who is the featured cook?

We've invited Orlando Bailey and his mother, Pamala Brown, to tell us a story about her dish.

Pamala Brown is the Academic Engagement Administrator at Ludington Magnet Middle School. She has worked in education first as an English Language Arts Teacher now Administrator with the Detroit Public Schools Community District for over 30 years. Pam is a native of Detroit and graduate of Kettering High School. She went onto to obtain her undergraduate degree from Oakland University and received her Master’s in Education at Wayne State University. Pam is married and has three adult sons.

What is the dish?

Chicken Stir Fry atop of a rice pilaf. Vegetarian alternatives will be available. Details forthcoming.

The pictured dish is a representation of what will be served.

For the last five years, Orlando has enjoyed a diversity of experiences from being afforded the opportunities to manage youth development efforts, community engagement and resident-driven projects and initiatives that seek to improve the quality of life of residents on the Lower Eastside.
